Thank you for coming and helping.

We had many participants from the U.S., the U.K, France, Italy, Spain, India and so on.

Participants who joined with their family, are exchange students, found this lecture from Alice's FB enjoyed this event.

I really wanna say thank you to Alice, who coordinated  our original workshop and worked as an interpreter.

Also, I want to say thank you to Chloe, who worked as an assistant. She is an exchange students to Hitotsubashi Univ. from Uni. of Oregon.

During her stay in Japan, we suggest that learning tea ceremony deeply at Kudanshita.

In the beginning of the lecture, I said that tea ceremony is a Japanese traditional culture. You guys may discover the culture or the way of thinking which are similar to that of your country's. Let's discover and share them.

1.立礼席 <Learning the basis of tea ceremony>

What's "Wabi"(侘び),which is Japanese sensitivity, often found from Waka(和歌). We learn it using a projector. Then, learn the history of "Wabi-cha"(侘び茶). Lastly, learn the cultivation and the way of production of Matcha, which is famous around the world.

Participants were really serious. I felt that Japanese culture is watched before the Tokyo Olympics.

2.Hiroma(広間).<learned the way to make tea at home>

I decorated Toko(床) with Houunsai

(鵬雲斎大宗匠)'s hanging scroll and put a tea jar.

We learned the way to make tea and drink them mutually.

Also, we learned Shitsurai(室礼).

A that day, it was Oct.10th and the day of the Ox in the old calendar. Next year's the Boar. Houunsai's also born in Boar year.

I got many questions. like

・Why are there many kind of charcoal?

・Why does Koma(小間)have only flowers?

・When do people hold a tea ceremony?

3.Koma(小間) <Experience of tea ceremony)

we could hear the sounds of water flowing. Based on that, they put a ship into here. Watching ships set sail in the fall (surrounded by the beautiful the autumn leaves), participants drank tea.

And, they felt the light, shadow, sounds of water, and wind.

I reflected their home countries, ancestors, friends and families to this tea ceremony.

The spirit of the tea ceremony is quite simple. Just preparing for the guests to welcome them.

I think this era is when we have to export our culture to other countries.

I also think we have to accept different culture, religion, sense of value and diversity. I believe this is the principle of the tea.
